“I had no idea as to the location or specific details of all the personal business items my mother had in her life. While we occasionally talked about money and investments, we never talked about specifics. I found myself waiting at the mailbox for statements to come in as well as digging through all her files to find the location of assets, liabilities, income sources, benefits, service providers, and important legal documents.
Further, I had no idea how to even begin to accomplish the task that was laid out for me. Looking back, I know I spent a great deal in extra legal fees because I didn’t know what to prepare before meeting with the attorney. In addition, the entire process took almost a year during one of the most emotionally difficult times in my life. The process was both emotionally and financially painful.
